Olam Chesed Yiboneh takes its name from the words of King David in Tehillim — olam chesed yiboneh, “the world shall be built on kindness.” That verse is our mission statement. Founded in Toronto, we are a registered Canadian charity dedicated to meeting the real, everyday needs of people who are struggling, in a way that preserves their dignity.
Our work spans the pillars of a caring community: relieving poverty, advancing education — both general and Torah study — and promoting health. Where another organization is better placed to help, we partner with and support other registered charities so that every dollar reaches the people who need it most.
We are a small, hands-on organization. Requests are reviewed personally and confidentially, and assistance is directed where it will make the greatest difference.
Our Charitable Purposes
- Relieve poverty by providing food, clean water, clothing and shelter to individuals and families in need.
- Advance education through scholarships and financial assistance for children of low-income households, from elementary through post-secondary.
- Advance education through scholarships and bursaries for students of Torah, Talmud and Rabbinic literature in Kollelim, Yeshivos and Seminaries.
- Promote health by funding medical, psychotherapy and dental treatment by licensed practitioners, and prescribed, Health Canada-approved medicine, for those in need.
- Receive and maintain funds and distribute them to qualified donees under the Income Tax Act (Canada).
Where your support goes
Every program below flows directly from our charitable purposes. Assistance is provided to individuals and families in need regardless of background, with an emphasis on the Jewish community of Greater Toronto.
Basic Needs & Poverty Relief
Food, clean water, clothing and shelter for individuals and families facing hardship — from emergency grocery support to help keeping a roof overhead.
Scholarships for Children
Publicly available scholarships and financial assistance so that children of low-income households can attend elementary, secondary and post-secondary education.
Torah Study Support
Bursaries and stipends for students of Torah, Talmud and Rabbinic literature learning in Kollelim, Yeshivos and Seminaries.
Medical & Dental Care
Funding for treatment by licensed doctors, psychotherapists and dentists, and for prescribed, Health Canada-approved medicine, for those who cannot afford it.
Partner Charities
We receive and maintain funds and grant them to other qualified donees so that help reaches people through the organizations best placed to serve them.

Baruch Fasten
Olam Chesed Yiboneh was founded in Toronto by Baruch Fasten with a simple conviction: that a community is measured by how it cares for those with the least. Rather than build a large organization, he set out to create a charity that could respond directly and personally — putting food on a table, keeping a child in school, covering a medical bill — while channelling larger needs to established partner charities.

Under his leadership, the charity operates with minimal overhead so that donations are directed to the people and purposes they were given for.
